Indigenous Perspectives
The importance of embedding Indigenous perspectives within the work of the teacher and social worker cannot be over emphasised. To source resources written by Indigenous practitioners is a social justice issue for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. The opportunity to celebrate Indigenous successes and achievements in education should never be overlooked. Quality teaching involves partnerships and collaboration with Indigenous communities.
‘Indigenous education is not black fella business. It is a business of crossed hands. White hands can assist Indigenous students to succeed and black hands can assist white communities to understand. Black hands give specific knowledge and white hands assist and lend helping hands for our people to succeed. Not dictating. Helping. Providing Time. Seeking funding. Sourcing capital in a sea of hands, black and white. Together.’

Managing the Space
So how do you manage the space? Managing the classroom is about more than just getting through the topic, and achieving a learning experience with your students. It is about managing time, behaviour (yours as well as the class), transitions, and the process of learning, as well as the content. The question is, how do we go about it?
